The Catholic Diocese of Idah was canonically erected on December 17, 1977 with its’ first bishop being Most Rev Dr. Ephraim Silas Obot to nurture and cater for the spiritual needs of the peasant farmers and petty traders that make up the diocese. Idah Diocese is an Ecclesial jurisdiction predominantly inhabited by Catholics, Muslims, and people of other religious backgrounds.
Presently, through the zeal and dedication of the present Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Ademu Adaji, MSP, the work of evangelization in spite of financial constraint, has been able to raise the number of parishes and Chaplaincies to 52 with over 200 mission stations. The diocese has 124 indigenous priests and 76 seminarians who at present are undergoing formation in four seminaries.
For the continuation of the work of Evangelization in rural communities, apart from the building of Churches, the diocese also engages in school and hospital apostolates. New nursery and primary schools are built for rural communities. The support from annual Missionary Cooperation Plan appeal from Diocese of San Diego has been very helpful to us. We are sincerely grateful.
